Funeral & Celebration of Life Ceremonies
Saying Goodbye Should Honour the Person You Loved
A funeral isn't a formula. It's not something to get through or endure. It's your opportunity to say goodbye in a way that truly reflects the person you've lost—their personality, their life, their impact on the world.
Whether you're planning a traditional crematorium service, a natural burial in a woodland, a celebration of life that's more party than sombre gathering, or something entirely unique, I'm here to help you create a meaningful farewell.
What's Included
Crematorium Services from £250:
-
Meeting You and Your Family
We'll meet in person or have a video call—whatever feels comfortable during this difficult time. I'll ask about your loved one, listen to your stories, and learn about the person they were. This isn't a box-ticking exercise; it's a proper conversation where I gather the material to write a eulogy that truly captures them.
-
Liaising with Funeral Directors
I'll coordinate with your funeral director and the crematorium to ensure everything runs smoothly. You shouldn't have to worry about logistics when you're grieving.
-
Writing the Eulogy
Using your stories and memories, I'll write a eulogy that reflects the person you, your family, and friends knew. Not generic platitudes—a real portrait of your loved one, including their quirks, their humour, their challenges, and their triumphs.
-
Conducting the Ceremony
On the day, I'll lead the service with warmth and professionalism. I'll hold the space for grief while celebrating the life that was lived. I'll make sure everyone feels included and that the service flows beautifully.
-
Celebration of Life Services from £300:
These can be held anywhere—your home, a village hall, a woodland, a riverside, a hilltop. Celebration of life ceremonies are often longer and more personal than crematorium services, allowing more time for stories, music, and meaningful moments.
Everything above, plus:
-
More Time and Flexibility
Without crematorium time restrictions, we can craft a longer, more detailed celebration. Multiple eulogies, live music, shared memories from attendees, time for laughter and tears.
-
Symbolic Elements
Tree planting ceremonies, scattering of ashes in a meaningful location, "telling the bees" about the loss, natural elements like flowers or stones that guests can contribute. We'll create moments that help with healing.
-
Outdoor Ceremonies
I specialize in outdoor celebrations—natural burials, woodland ceremonies, scattering ashes on beloved hilltops. These can be profoundly healing and feel more connected to the earth and the cycle of life.
The Process
-
1. First Contact
When you reach out, we'll arrange to talk either by phone or in person as soon as possible. I know this is a difficult time, and I'll be responsive and gentle.
-
2. Our Meeting
We'll meet to talk about your loved one. I'll ask questions, but mostly I'll listen. Tell me stories, show me photos, share the little details that made them who they were. If you have a particular piece of music, a favorite poem, or specific wishes they expressed, we'll discuss how to incorporate those.
-
3. I Write the Service
Using everything you've shared, I'll write a service that honours your loved one authentically. The eulogy will sound like them, feel like them. If you'd like, I can include a personal poem I've written about them.
-
4. Review (if you'd like)
Some families want to see the eulogy before the service; others prefer to hear it for the first time on the day. Either is fine. If you want to review it, we'll arrange that.
-
5. The Ceremony
I'll conduct the service with warmth, dignity, and care. I'll hold the space for however people need to grieve—with tears, with laughter, with silence, with stories.
Why Choose Me for This Goodbye?
-
I Truly Listen
I don't rush. I don't fill in blanks with assumptions. I want to understand who this person really was, not just the highlights reel. I've worked in social care for 35 years—I know how to sit with grief and hold space for difficult emotions.
-
I'm Comfortable with Complexity
Not every life is neat. Not every goodbye is straightforward. Complicated relationships, difficult emotions, family tensions, unconventional requests—I can handle it all with sensitivity and professionalism.
-
I'm Inclusive
I've worked with people with learning disabilities, dementia, autism, and physical challenges. If your loved one or attending family members have additional needs, I know how to ensure everyone can participate meaningfully.
-
I Help Create Healing Moments
Tree planting ceremonies where something grows from the loss. Stone ceremonies where everyone contributes something tangible. Scattering ashes with wildflower seeds so blooms return each spring. These symbolic moments help with grief and give people something to hold onto.
-
I Specialize in Natural & Outdoor Ceremonies
If you're considering a natural burial, a woodland ceremony, or scattering ashes in a beautiful outdoor location, this is my specialty. I understand how to create meaningful moments in natural settings.
I also practice "telling the bees"—an old tradition where you inform the bees about major life events, including deaths. If your loved one was a gardener, nature lover, or beekeeper, this can be a beautiful touch.
Types of Services
-
Crematorium Services
Traditional services at your local crematorium. Usually 30-40 minutes, with flexibility within that timeframe for eulogies, music, readings, and personal touches.
-
Celebration of Life
Held at a venue or location of your choosing, without time restrictions. These can be as unique as the person you're honouring—including their favorite music, shared meals, memory sharing, and personal touches.
-
Natural Burials
Outdoor burials in natural settings—woodlands, meadows, or designated natural burial grounds. These are becoming increasingly popular and can be profoundly beautiful and healing.
-
Home Funerals
Some families choose to hold the ceremony at home, in their garden, or on family land. This can be deeply personal and allows complete freedom in how you say goodbye.
Investment
Crematorium services: from £250 Celebration of life: from £300
Both include everything outlined above. Optional extras like additional meetings, provision of symbolic element materials, or extended services can be discussed.
Working with Funeral Directors
I work with all funeral directors in Shropshire, Herefordshire, Worcestershire, and the surrounding areas. If you've already chosen a funeral director, perfect—I'll coordinate with them. If you haven't, I can suggest local independent directors who are excellent at personalised services.
Kind words
Meaningful Farewells
My experience comes from singing at funerals, working in social care supporting families through difficult times, and understanding grief personally. I'm now bringing all of that together to help families create meaningful farewells. I'd be honoured to help you say goodbye.
Frequently Asked Questions
How quickly can you arrange a ceremony?
As quickly as needed. Funerals often happen within 2-3 weeks of a death. Contact me as soon as you know the date, and I'll prioritize meeting with you and writing the service.
Can we include non-traditional elements?
Absolutely. This is your goodbye, and it should reflect your loved one. Unusual music, unconventional readings, personal anecdotes that include difficult or funny moments—if it honours them authentically, we'll include it.
What if our family doesn't agree on what the service should include?
I'm experienced at navigating family dynamics sensitively. We'll find ways to honour different needs and perspectives.
Can you do outdoor services in winter?
Yes. With appropriate planning, outdoor services can happen in any weather. I'll work with you on practical considerations.
Do you work with all faiths and none?
Yes. I'm not religious, but I respect all beliefs and can incorporate spiritual or faith elements if that's important to you.
